How it all started
In 2000 I contacted some old friends from the 1950’s that I had played football with, John Townson, Derek Irving, Alan Moorhouse, Joe Sherrington and Nodder Muckalt with a view to arranging a reunion. We duly held our first reunion at the Boot & Shoe in Lancaster and 75 of us spent a very pleasant evening recalling the sporting exploits of our youth. In the days following I thought about what to do with the £141 that had been raised on the night and after discussing it with my friends it was decided to donate the money to the Orthopaedic Ward at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary where most of us had spent time with sporting injuries.
After holding 10 Annual Reunions I have decided to change the format to open the event up to everyone with an interest in football. The North Lancashire & District Football League are in the process of using a room at the Skerton Liberal Club to display the history of the League and football in general in the Lancaster area and this display will be available for everyone to see.
Many local businesses have supported us over the years and after presenting a cheque for £5,000 in March 2010 to Ward Manager, Lesley Allsopp, to buy modern equipment for the benefit of patients and their families we passed the £25,000 mark. We have so much fun at our events that it is easy to forget that our enjoyment is helping a wonderful group of people at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
